JORDAN, MN – The Minnesota Thoroughbred Association held their annual yearling and mixed age sale Monday at the Scott County Fairgrounds and the results bounced from their 2014 highs. Though the sale failed to build of its record 2014 results, gross proceeds, average and median prices still exceeded 2013 levels.

“The 2015 sale is now history,” said MTA President Jay Dailey.  “We had good buyers, sellers and horses.  Plans for 2016 have already started.”

Overall, 76 yearlings were consigned to the sale with 66 making it through the ring and 40 changing hands grossing $310,150. In 2014, 69 yearlings were consigned with 67 passing though the ring and 43 being sold. Gross proceeds were considerably higher, however, at $454,100.

Last year the average selling price reached a record $10,560 but dropped 28% to $7,594 this year. The median was also off, sliding 27% to $4,150.  The average in 2013 was $6,555 while the median checked in at $4,000.

“We had a very good bunch of horses, all with pedigree, looks and in condition to sell,” Dailey said.  “It’s hard to say why we didn’t sell more or why the prices were off.  We’re looking at ways to make 2016 even better.”

This year’s sales topper was a Stephen Got Even colt out of Just Smart (Smart Strike). Purchased by Les Schneider for $30,000, the colt was bred and consigned by Wildcat Ranch LLC.  Wildcat also topped the 2014 sale with Girlatwerk (Yes It’s True-Dee’s Rose-Straight Man).  She sold for $52,000.  Her full brother, Bestwerkethicofall (hip #48) failed to meet his reserve of $49,000.

Circle W Performance Horses led all consignors with 11 horses sold and gross proceeds of $65,550. Topping their consignment was Boyd’s Secret, a roan filly out of Cinnamon Secret (Cozzene) by first crop sire Jersey Town who sold for $24,500 and was consigned with Haroldson Thoroughbreds and Team J&K.

A pair of two year olds were also offered at the sale.  Both were sold for $2200 and $4200, respectively.
