SHAKOPEE, MN –  The Quarter Horse stakes schedule kicks off at Canterbury Park on Sunday with the $26,780 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Quarter Horse Futurity and the 24,000 North Star State Stakes.

The Stallion Futurity, the 350 yard opener on Sunday’s card, features recent maiden breaker Haute Wagon.  The 9-5 morning line favorite, Haute Wagon dominated in his maiden breaking win last out, winning by 2 lengths in the 350 yard dash.  Out of the Vic Hanson stable, Haute Wagon will be ridden again by Marcus Swiontek.

Bhr Flashing Effort comes in with the highest speed index of the field (75), though a well beaten 4th in a Fort Pierre stake.  The race was also at 250 yards and he’ll add another 100 yards in the Futurity.

The Sizzleizer was third last out behind the favorite but has acquitted himself well in his first two career starts with a pair of thirds.

In the North Star State, multiple Canterbury stakes winner Pyc Jess Bite Mydust was installed as the 7-5 favorite for his 2018 Canterbury debut.  He put in a pair of so-so efforts at Remington in high level optional claimers and the 2017 Minnesota Derby champ should be well primed for an effort against state breds.

Blacks Cartel, winner of the 2017 Cash Caravan Stakes here last year also comes in off of a pair of optional claiming efforts in Oklahoma.  He drew post position 8 while his main rival is on the inside of the field, post position two.
