Eagle Deluxe Upends NCQHRA Futurity

SHAKOPEE, MN – Going into the $52,600 North Central Quarter Horse Racing Association Futurity trainer Jason Olmstead had five spots of the nine in the starting gate so he knew he had a chance, the question was which horse?

“When we drew I knew that Eagle Deluxe and First of 15 were live,” said Olmstead “while Dickey Bob drew the rail [after the scratch of the 1] and I figured he would have a tougher time.  He’ll be back on Festival Day, though, and he’ll be tough to beat in with Minnesota breds.”

Dickey Bob finished fifth.

Eagle Deluxe ($25.00) broke sharply and powered to a 3/4 length win under rider Berkley Packer.  Marfilmio ($6.00) held on to second by a nose, keeping Olmstead from finishing 1-2, over First and 15 ($5.80).

Even money favorite and top qualifier, Jjsir James, broke poorly and finished 8th.

“We had really high expectations for this colt,” said Olmstead.  “While the expectations didn’t quite pan out, we’re really happy to be making up for it on this end.”

With the win, Eagle Deluxe takes his second stakes race of the meet having won the Northlands Juvenile on July 2.
