There is nothing with more unlimited promise than a Thoroughbred foal. The wonder and excitement at discovering his wobbly legs and then instinctive use of them to fulfill his destiny is breathtaking and awe-inspiring. Breeding to foaling is an 11-month Odyssey fraught with risk and little guarantee of reward. Valuable stallions, mares and their offspring are entrusted to the care of dedicated and tireless individuals that work year round to ensure the future of Thoroughbred racing. While Kentucky remains the Mecca for the breed, no less care and consideration goes into the breeding and development of young horses in other locales. The following is a photo essay of just two of the several breeding and foaling facilities in the state of Minnesota and what the coming of Spring brings to the state. Thanks to Dove Hill and Wood-Mere Farms for their cooperation which made it possible to bring the sights of foaling and breeding season to you here.
