Richest Quarter Horse Racing Day in Canterbury History Set for Sunday

SHAKOPEE, MN – Canterbury Park will showcase Quarter Horse racing tomorrow with the richest card it has ever offered.  Six races worth over $300,000 will be up for grabs highlighted by the $165,600 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity.

The 5/2 morning line favorite for the 350 yard Mystic Lake Northlands is the Jason Olmstead trained Pyc Jess Bite My Dust.  Owned and bred by Lunderborg LLC in Minnesota, Pyc Jess Bite My Dust was the fastest qualifier for the Futurity and draws post ten.  The outside has been a relatively advantageous place to be for the Quarter Horses and Olmstead also trains half the field.

“It’s not an easy thing to do and it’s very nice to qualify five to a race like this,’’ he said. “At the same time, it’s more pressure. It’s not my five I’m concerned about, it’s the other five.’’

The other five are led by the horse breaking from the inside of the favorite, Vic Hanson trained Lithe.  Hanson also qualified Royal Dashof Diamond and trainer Stacey Charette-Hill, who has a history of success at Canterbury also qualified a pair while trainer Kasey Willis’ Two Timin Suzy will be looking for her third consecutive victory.

Charette-Hill and Olmstead both have heavy favorites on the stakes undercard.  In the $20,000 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity, Olmstead saddles 3/2 favorite Vodka at Midnight.  The undefeated daughter of Triple Vodka will look to run her record to three for three in the Futurity.

In the $50,000 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby, Charette-Hill trained Jess Paint Your Lips will be trying to win four of five career starts in the 400 yard Derby.  The sorrel filly will break from post four and owns the swiftest qualifying time of :20.17.

There will be twelve total races on the Sunday card.  Prior to the stakes action there will be a maiden and a pair of allowance Quarter Horse races with the day kicking off at 12:54.
