SHAKOPEE, MN – It seemed like an unlikely scenario when 5/2 Lemonsaregoodongrass took the blanket finish of the 3rd race at Canterbury Park but when the tote board showed that 73-1 Lil Mighty Mo got a nose up for 2nd and 30-1 Correspondence finished 3rd, track announcer Kevin Gorg intimated that something special could be in the making.
“If you have the dime super, you’re excited,” he told the crowd after announcing the order of finish.
If you held that single dime superfecta ticket you were happy indeed. Even with 9/2 Haley’s Comet finishing 4th, the superfecta paid a Canterbury record of $10,190.74.
The old record, set in 2014 was $7,266.90.
That’s the second record mutual payout at Canterbury this season. Earlier in the year Vic Hanson trainee Congregation blew up the tote board winning at odds of 79-1 and paid $161 to win.
