SHAKOPEE, MN – Stakes week starts tonight at Canterbury Park with the Minnesota Quarter Horse Racing Association Stallion Auction Stakes Futurity. The race will cover 350 yards and carry a purse of $61,220.
2022 Canterbury Hall of Fame inductee, trainer Jason Olmstead, has a trio of qualifiers including undefeated Beep Beep Rev Rev. The filly, bred in Minnesota and owned by Summer Run Inc., started her career with a maiden win at Remington Park before reeling off a pair of wins at Canterbury including the Northern Stars Futurity before being the top qualifier for tonight’s race with a dash of :17.73 and earning a field best Speed Index of 82. She will be piloted by her regular rider, Edwin Escobedo. Escobedo has been on fire this meet, winning at 45%. When teaming with Olmstead the last two seasons, the pair is winning at a 36% clip.
To her outside is another Olmstead trainee, Relentless Okie, who is just a neck away from being undefeated himself. He sandwiched that 2nd place finish in a Remington allowance between a maiden win and winning his qualifier in :17.99.
Prairie Meadows Hall of Fame 2022 inductee, Stormy Smith, will be aboard Alotta Oh La La who finished a length behind Beep Beep Rev Rev in qualifying. They’ll be looking to turn the tables on the favorite for trainer Mallory Norton and breeder/owner Leon Glasser (North Dakota).
First post tonight is 5:10 pm with the Futurity scheduled to go off at 9:10 as the 9th race on the card.
Stakes week will continue Thursday evening with a quartet of Quarter Horse stakes including a pair of Grade III races, The Cantebury Park Distaff Challenge and the Canterbury Park Distance Challenge.
The week culminates with four state bred Thoroughbred stakes Saturday evening including Minnesota Oaks and Derby prep races, the Frances Genter and Vic Myers.
