“Go Fund Me” Set Up for Injured Jockey Fuentes

Jockeys Ruben Fuentes and Roimes Chirinos we’re involved in a bad spill at Canterbury Park last Thursday in the 5th race when Fuentes mount, Malintent, suffered a catastrophic breakdown at the top of the stretch.

Though Chirinos’ injuries were minor and he returned to racing the next racing day, Fuentes was severely injured when Malintent flipped and landed on his upper body. The impact was so severe that it cracked his safety helmet.

Fuentes underwent extensive surgery yesterday and faces a long recovery period.

His brothers, Luis and Miguel, have started a Go Fund Me page to help with expenses.

Ruben Fuentes a thoroughbred jockey needs everyone’s help. He went down on a race at Canterbury Park on June 23rd, where he suffered light skull fracture, C5 & C6 neck vertebrae fracture & a fractured left clavicule. He underwent surgery on June 27th. Everybody who knows Ruben, knows the smile he always has on his face. He has the biggest race of his life ahead of him. Let’s help him and his family.”
