Recount and Emmanuel Esquivel team up again after a dominating victory in the Land of Lincoln Stakes at Hawthorne to take on seven rivals in the six furlong $75,000 Golden Circle Stakes at Prairie Meadows Friday evening.
The winner of the Grade 3 Arlington Washington Futurity picked up right where he left off after a break in taking the Land of Lincoln by 3 3/4 lengths on April 11. Since that time, trainer Jim DeVito sent him out for a bullet 5 furlong work on April 24 and looks sharp for his Iowa return when he finished 34rd in the $100,000 Prairie Meadows Juvenile.
Iowa bred Caribbean Cowboy returns home to Prairie Meadows where he was undefeated in three starts as a juvenile, including a pair of state bred stakes victories. His seasonal debut at Oaklawn was a bit disappointing, finishing seventh in a $50,000 optional claiming race, but the goal would have been to get ready for the stakes season at Prairie Meadows and if he got what he needed out of the race, he could be dangerous at home.
Stakes placed A M Milky Way finished a solid 2nd in the $100,000 Bachelor Stakes at Oaklawn last out and should be the stalker behind the pace set by the favorite. A run to his speed figures in the Golden Circle could put him in the winners’ circle.
The Golden Circle is the 8th race on the card. First post is at 6:30 PM.
