Dickey Bob Goes for Third Cash Caravan

SHAKOPEE, MN – The 1889 Futurity and the Cash Caravan, a pair of Quarter Horse Stakes, will round out the second day of Indian Horse Relays at Canterbury Park.

The eighth race on the card will be the $23.400 1889 Futurity for 2-year olds which are either North or South Dakota bred.

The 3-1 morning line favorite, Ima Freighttrain B, comes into the race off a win in the North Dakota Quarter Horse Association Futurity for trainer Bob Johnson. He’ll be covering the same 350 yards in the 1889 and owns a field best last out speed index of 83.  The lightly raced gelding will be ridden by David Pinon.

Gold Medal Soldier, a strong competitor, has only missed the board once, but that was against Ima Freighttrain B in the Fargo stake.

Deal Me a Jess is coming in off a two race winning streak in North Dakota including a win over Gold Medal Soldier last out.

Dickie Bob

The ninth on the card is the $39,200 Cash Caravan Stakes which has been the personal purview of Lunderborg LLC the past three years, twice with today’s contender, Dickey Bob, bookending a win by his full brother Pyc Jess Bite Mydust.

While Dickey Bob has won this race twice before, he is by no means a lock.  He finished second in May to Fire N Guns in the Bob Morehouse here, but he also has not been seen since that race.  He’s been training well for trainer Ralph Haglund and will be the main threat to Dickey Bob if he’s ready.

Graded Stakes placed Holy Storm gets the rail in his second start of the season.  He prepped for this in $20,000 optional claimer at Prairie Meadows.  While he didn’t show much, the horse is talented and a revert to his former form puts him in the mix.

Post time for the ten race card starts at 5:10 PM with Indian Horse Relays after races 3, 5 and 7.
