Brisnet Error in Canterbury Past Performances Causes Stir

When first time starter Legend in Time took to the track in the 3rd race at Canterbury Park on May 24, those in the crowd that use past performances from Brisnet thought the 3-year old filly had one start in her in March while others who use the DRF past performances saw her as first time starter.  This created some confusion and consternation among patrons who handicapped the race based on incorrect information.

Which one was true?

As it turns out, Legend in Time was once named Story Hour.  Story Hour was entered to race at Tampa Bay Downs in March but a horse named Summer Swing ended up running in her stead through misidentification.  Story Hour (Summer Swing) finished third in the race and was moved to second on a DQ.  It was learned subsequently that Story Hour was misidentified.  The Tampa Bay stewards ruled that Story Hour should be disqualified from purse money and placed last while The Jockey Club decreed that she also be renamed (Legend in Time).  The Jockey Club also ruled that Summer Swing will run her next three races with the notation “formerly ran as Story Hour” and the running line of the “Story Hour” race belongs to Summer Swing.

How Brisnet ended up with the incorrect running line for Legend in Time is a mystery.  We reached out for comment over the weekend via email and there was no response.

Legend in Time, an actual first time starter, won her debut race at Canterbury.

Here is the official stewards ruling from Tampa.
