Minnesota Racing Break

There will be no racing at Canterbury Park this weekend as the track takes a week off after a marathon series of six consecutive race days.  Horses – and horsemen – will have a chance to take a break and the track will work on the surfaces at near the midpoint of the season.

Iowa Racing Festival

Prairie Meadows is conducting their annual Iowa Festival of Racing this weekend with three days of graded stakes action beginning tonight with the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks.  Friday’s card will include the Grade 3 Iowa Derby while Saturday’s card, the Grade 3 Cornhusker Stakes.  Some notables: trainers Dale Romans, Steve Asmussen; jockeys Mike Smith, Rajiv Maragh and Corey Lanerie; for Minnesotans, a local connection – Line Judge, owned by Barry and Joni Butzow will run in the Iowa Derby.

Horsemen’s Park Meet

Horsemen’s Park opens this weekend for their three weekend meet.  The Omaha area track will run July 7-9, 21-22 and 28-29

Governor Dayton Appoints Three to Minnesota Racing Commission 

Dan Erhart and Dr. Camille McArdle have been reappointed, and Roy Johnson has been appointed, to the Commission for six year terms beginning July 1, 2017.  Governor Dayton announced the appointments on June 27, 2017.
