Cash Caravan Stakes to be Run Festival Day

Shakopee, Minn. – When Canterbury Park officials canceled racing Wednesday due to excessive heat, lost was the $20,000-added Cash Caravan Stakes, a 440-yard race restricted to quarter horses bred in Minnesota. The Cash Caravan will now be run Saturday, Sept. 9 as part of the Minnesota Festival of Champions which also includes the Minnesota Quarter Horse Derby and Minnesota Quarter Horse Futurity. Entries will be taken Sept. 2. The Cash Caravan has been contested each season since 1995, except for 2007 through 2011.

“It is important to owners of state-breds and the Minnesota breeders to offer the Cash Caravan,” Amber Carlisle, quarter horse racing secretary, said. ““It is a good fit on a day that we celebrate Minnesota racing and breeding and should not complicate plans for those that would already be racing on Festival Day.”

Racing on Sept. 9 will begin at 4 p.m. CT.
