Divisional honors were announced last night after the finale of the 2020 season at Canterbury Park. In no surprise, Ready to Runaway was named the 2020 Horse of the Year.
Owned by John Mentz and trained by Mac Robertson, Ready to Runaway followed up her breakout 2019 season with a nearly unbeatable 2020. After prepping at Oaklawn with a second and two thirds, she returned to Canterbury Park and was a neck away from going five for five on the season.
She captured the Lady Slipper to start the season and finished up with a dominating performance on Festival Day in the Bella Notte Minnesota Sprint. In between she won an open company optional claimer as well as the Glitter Star Stakes. The only blemish on the season was losing by a neck to turf specialist Firstmate in the Minnesota Distaff Sprint.
She was simply dominating from beginning to end.
