The four furlong $10,000 Bold Accent Stakes for fillies and mares is the feature race on Saturday’s card at Fonner Park.
Most of the ladies are making their first start of the season with a pair of notable exceptions.
Dee’s Dream from the inside and Habitually Golden out of the eight post both have one start over the Grand Island oval with Dee’s Dream finishing second in a $15,000 Optional Claiming race while Habitually Golden cleared her 3rd level allowance condition. In a Stake so early in the season, these may have a fitness edge over some of the others in the field and, at 10-1 and 5-1, respectively, in the morning line, could provide some value.
They’ll have to get by the two main contenders in this group, however, both making their seasonal debuts in the Bold Accent.
Daddy’s Song, the 7/2 morning line favorite, had a very nice run for owner Jody Jackson and trainer Chuck Turco since being claimed for $5,000 at the Fair Grounds. She finished the 2014 season with two nice allowance wins out west while placing in three straight stakes including the $15,000 Runza Stakes at Fonner. She’s trained very well for her debut including a bullet :35 4/5 as a final tune up for the race.
Hersilia, a turf invader from Indiana, posted $25,000 claiming win to her credit at Indiana Grand over the turf in a campaign that saw her hit the board in 4 of 7 starts, winning two. She’s tried to come off the pace in her races and with this being her seasonal debut at a distance of only 4 furlongs, she may not be able to catch the favorite late.
