SHAKOPEE, MN – After six years as a well-respected paddock analyst at Canterbury Park, fan favorite Brian Arrigoni is moving to Horseshoe Indianapolis (formerly Indiana Grand).
“I wasn’t looking to change, but my life has been filled with change over the past 6 years at Canterbury with a fiancé and the addition of 3 young children,” said Arrigoni. But the total package, put together by former Canterbury and Fairgrounds senior executive (and current Horseshoe Indianapolis’ Vice President and General Manager of Racing) was just too good to pass up. Arrigoni will appear in a mixture of on-site and remote broadcasts throughout the season.
Arrigoni will start when the Horseshoe’s racing season begins on April 19.
Arrigoni earned the job at Canterbury after a competitive audition process and immediately made it clear that he had his own style, picking a clear long shot in his first race before the public. The double-digit winner showed the Canterbury faithful that he wasn’t going to be a public handicapper looking to pad his win stats, but was willing to go out on a limb if he had an opinion. They also learned that if he had an opinion on a longshot, it was time to pay attention.
Arrigoni will join the well-respected team in Indiana that Halstrom has put together, including track announcer John Dooley and analyst Rachel McLaughlin.
“I’m excited to get down to Indiana and meet people I’ve admired from a far for a very long time. As a player I have always enjoyed the full fields and turf racing that horseshoe Indy has had,” said Arrigoni.
It was a very difficult decision for the Minnesota native to leave the Shakopee racetrack where he grew up, learning to handicap races with his father – who would make occasional appearances with his son on the Canterbury pre-race show.
“For the people in Minnesota, Canterbury will always be my home. I’m thankful for the staff, friends and fans I had the pleasure of getting to know over the past 6 years,” said Arrigoni. ”Canterbury will always have a special place in my heart and I’m thankful I had the chance to work there.”
Canterbury has not made any decisions on a replacement.
